A Short Guide to Reading Architectural Drawings
Every set of drawings is a language. The plan shows the layout from above; the section cuts through the building to reveal heights and relationships; the elevation shows a facade straight on. Read together, they describe a space completely.
Start with the title block and scale, then follow the grid lines and dimensions. Notice how symbols repeat — doors, stairs, levels — and the drawings quickly become easy to navigate. With a little practice, a flat sheet turns into a building in your mind.
